Program Details

Our free, in-school, afterschool leadership program features a well-researched, educator-endorsed curriculum that includes thought-provoking games, skill-based activities and lively group discussions.

Led by fully trained volunteer coach-mentors from leading companies, the kids.now program focuses on "employability skills" identified by the Conference Board of Canada as necessary for success in the workplace. In each 12-week program, kids in grades seven and eight work with coach-mentors to develop the following life-success skills in a fun, engaging and supportive atmosphere:

Goal Setting

Kids learn how to identify obstacles, brainstorm solutions, establish milestones and evaluate results.

Communication and Presentation Skills

Students gain experience speaking and presenting information to a group.

Teamwork

Through group assignments, participants appreciate the dynamics of teamwork and the responsibility of supporting one another.

Self-Awareness

Participants examine their own character traits, talents, needs and behaviours, to better understand how to achieve personal goals.

Valuing Diversity

Kids learn to recognize and value differences in others.

Innovation and Creativity

Inspirational activities help demonstrate the art of effective brainstorming.

Leadership

Participants build confidence as they take turns leading discussions, games and activities.

Stress Management

Sources of stress are discussed, and kids learn stress management techniques.

Feedback

Speaking and listening games are used to help kids understand the principles of effectively giving and receiving feedback.

Conflict Resolution

Kids learn to appreciate the role they play in changing the direction of conflict situations, and when and how to apply different conflict resolution strategies.

Coaching

Participants learn and practise a results-oriented coaching model.

Healthy Living

Kids learn how healthy living is connected to healthy thinking.
